Access and Equity Schemes

 

CQUniversity

CQUniConnect assists students gain entry into their nominated CQUniversity course, however, all prerequisites must be met. Once enrolled, students receive ongoing support which includes a textbook grant, participation in the Student Readiness Program and preference for financial assistance. This program is available to Year 12 students attending a number of secondary schools who are part of CQUniversity's Widening Participation Program. This program is aimed at applicants from low income backgrounds and regional and remote students. Other financial assistance programs are available however it is recommended that applicants nominate for Educational Access Scheme in their QTAC application and select the Financial Hardship category if applicable. Griffith University

The Griffith University Uni-Start Equity Admission and Scholarship Scheme is an integrated program that includes a single application process for equity admission and a scholarship as well as additional access and transition support. Uni-Start is open to school-leavers and non school-leavers who have experienced financial hardship and/or educational disadvantage. Please see www.griffith.edu.au/scholarships for more information.

The Griffith University Uni-Reach program assists financially disadvantaged students to access and prepare for higher education. Students participate in a mentor program, attend a two day ‘On-Campus Experience’, and participate in study skill workshops and a lecture program to introduce them to university life. Students can also apply for a Griffith University degree program via the Uni-Start Equity Admission and Scholarship Scheme. The scheme assesses student applications using equity criteria other than OP. On enrolment at Griffith students receive ongoing support through a pre-orientation program as well as mentor support through their first semester. Uni-Reach is available to Year 12 students attending a number of secondary schools in the Griffith catchment area. Queensland University of Technology (QUT)

QUT's Q-Step Scheme is an admissions bonus scheme for people from low-income backgrounds. If financial hardship has made it difficult for students to reach their full potential, QUT's Q-Step Scheme can help students gain entry with an admission bonus or up to 3 OPs (or 6 ranks) for entry into most undergraduate courses. Q-Step students are also guaranteed a $1000 bursary when they commence their course. It is open to school-leavers and some non-school leavers from Queensland or interstate. Once enrolled, Q-Step students will also be linked into QUT's support services to assist with the transition to university including Counselling Services, Health Services, Equity and Learning Support.

Please note applications for Q-Step are made by indicating on your QTAC application that you want to be considered for the Educational Access Scheme and selecting the category - Financial Hardship.

The University of Queensland

The University of Queensland's UQ-Link Access provides equitable access to higher education for school-leavers who have experienced educational disadvantage as a result of financial hardship. Eligible students are allocated bonus points and receive a start-up bursary. All prerequisites must be met. A limited number of UQ-Link Access Scholarships are also available. The UQ-Link Access Program is open to Australian citizens or permanent residents who are currently completing Year 12 (or seeking entry using combined mode) or undertaking full-time Senior External Examination or Certificate IV in Adult Tertiary Preparation.
