Preferences

Applicants can change the order of their preferred courses or substitute new courses at any time up to the dates for inclusion in each offer round.  In some cases, institutions may not accept late changes of preference for specific courses, typically those with audition or portfolio or other special entry requirements.  If a course has an early closing date it will be noted in the course entry.

Applicants can change their preferences via Current Applicant online services. To access the services,  you will need your QTAC Application Number and PIN.  The PIN is initially set to the day and month of your birth eg the PIN is 0405 if your date of birth is the fourth of May. Current Year 12 applicants can use their Year 12 Student Number as an alternative access number.

Changing Preferences As Part Of A Response To An Offer

If you are made an offer and you then decide that you wish to gain entry to a course you listed as a lower preference or to a course that you had not previously applied for, you may change your preferences for consideration in future offer rounds, if further offers are made.  You can do this via Current Applicant online services.

As part of changing your preferences you have the option to:

  • accept the offer but still be considered for new higher preferences in any further offer rounds
  • reject the offer but still be considered for new higher preferences in any further offer rounds
  • apply to defer the offer but still be considered for new higher preferences in any further offer rounds

Please note that if you conditionally accept an offer and are subsequently offered a higher preference for that semester, you lose the preference previously offered.  If you are not made a subsequent offer for a higher preference, you will retain the offer you conditionally accepted from the previous offer round for that semester.

Ordering Preferences

QTAC applications lodged from July 1, 2010 can include courses starting in Semester 3, 2010, Semester 1, 2011 and Semester 2, 2011.

It is essential that preferences are ordered carefully. For example, if January is the major offer round for your first preference and December is the major offer round for your second preference, you will not be considered for a place in your second preference in the December offer rounds as these offers are released before the January offers. You would be considered for your second preference in January if you were unsuccessful in receiving an offer for your first preference and places still existed for your second preference.
